How to Clean Grout

Pet-Baby-Safe-Tile-Cleaning-300x199by Barbara Loraine

Grout is porous and holds grime, gets stained, and becomes a science experiment.  That’s not what you want going on on your kitchen counters, floors, or any of your living spaces.  Although your grout was sealed when your tiles were installed, the sealant breaks down over time, hence the stained, yucky grout.

Grout can be difficult – or impossible – to get clean.  But not with TLC Clean.  Claning grout is easy!

Determine how much grout needs to be cleaned and how much time you want to devote (this time) to the task.  While TLC Clean All-Purpose does most of the work, in the way it gobbles up grout stains, you may have to do some scrubbing.  Don’t worry about it.  Once you see how is it is to clean your grout, you can set aside 15 to 30 minutes here and there – and the next thing you know, all your grout will be clean and fresh.

  • Add 2 to 4 teaspoons All Purpose to 1 cup  hot water.
  • Stir to dissolve completely.
  • This will make a concentration
  • Use a spoon to apply the mixture onto the grout
  • With your finger, a towel, or a brush, rub the mixture to cover every inch of the grout
  • Scrub the grout.  A tooth brush can work well for this.
  • Walk away and let the All-Purpose do its job.  Cover the area with a damp towel, to keep the product wet and working.
  • In an hour or so, return to your grout project.
  • If necessary, scrub the grout again.  A tooth brush can work well for this.
  • Be careful not to scrub too hard: don’t crack the grout.
  • If there are any areas that are still stained, repeat as before.
